Après l'élimination de la légende vivante de ce sport, Thomas Allier, dès les quarts de finale mercredi, les espoirs tricolores reposaient sur le Lyonnais de naissance. A la lutte dès le départ, Godet, placé dans la deuxième demi-finale, celle de Maris Strombergs, achevait la première manche à la 4e place juste devant l'Argentin Becerine. La deuxième manche de la demi-finale ressemblait étrangement à la première, avec toujours autant de difficultés au départ pour le Français. Et cette fois, c'était avec le Batave Rob van den Wildenberg (3e) que le Tricolore bagarrait, sans succès (4e). Rien n'était donc assuré avant le troisième run des demi-finales. Comme précédemment, Godet n'était pas vraiment le plus prompt au départ. Pire même puisque contrairement aux manches précédentes, il ne pouvait lutter en tête. Relégué à la 6e place, l'actuel numéro 5 mondial devait attendre le décompte pour valider sa place en finale, obtenue pour un tout petit point devant Becerine.
Comme pour les filles, c'est sur une seule manche que se jouait la finale. Pour la première fois de la journée, Godet ne handicapait pas trop au départ, à la porte 6. Mieux même puisqu'il était à la bagarre pour une médaille au premier virage. Mais sa finale s'arrêtait dans le tournant suivant, pris dans une chute avec le Sud-Africain Sifiso Nhlapo. Le bilan français est tout de même excellent pour cette première apparition, plus que convaincante, aux Jeux Olympiques.
